Giving Pledge Program

Big news!

I was going to finish up those other articles I just talked about yesterday but then my mind exploded after reading this:
http://stars.ign.com/articles/111/1110726p1.html

Simply amazing! That's over 115 billion to charity. So that got me doing some research and found more on the subject:
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/08/05/us/05giving.html

While the first link mostly describes George Lucas's addition to the program, the second link explains the thought processes going on and there's more explanation as to why some have and some haven't donated.

So I decided to go to the key source itself at the official website and found the list of pledges:

Not only does it have every single entry but each person or group wrote a letter. You should definitely take the time to read some of these letters. A range of touching and emotional to hopeful and giving. Some are literally out right shocking at how much money is being donated. It's a wonderful read, I assure you.

As you can probably imagine, time slipped by rather quickly from all the reading. As such, the articles will get posted as they get completed but the four out of five I planned on posting today aren't obviously going to make it in time. I also didn't imagine I'd be getting home so late but that's a whole other story.

This is Kylak signing out and finding it ironic that Jar Jar Binks actually managed to benefit the education system. Irony wins again!

  1. Wow, that's just simply amazing. I have new respect for George Lucas and for everyone who donated. I mean, giving away money can be a tough thing, especially in this economy.

  2. Agreed. With our education system losing so much money, this is a big deal.

Wake County alone (where my Mother works as a Teacher) has reported a total estimate loss of over $40 million. That's just one county. The numbers are mind numbing.

  3. Holy cow, seriously? That's really bad, especially since education is important.
