Premium Deck Series: Fire & Lightning Review

So I took a peek at the decklist of this ever so shiny product (it is all foil after all) and was honestly astounded. Figure of Destiny? Grim Lavamancer? Chain Lightning? Price of Progress? They cost around $6-$12 each and that's NON-foil versions. That's not even considering how many other good cards are stacked together here. Almost the entire list is pure candy. This deck has some serious balls for packing so much heat. No seriously... it really has balls: Ball Lighting and Fireball. Let's take a moment to stare at this decklist together:

25 Lands
__________
1 Barbarian Ring
1 Ghitu Encampment
2 Teetering Peaks
21 Mountain

20 Creatures
_____________
1 Ball Lightning
1 Boggart Ram-Gang
1 Cinder Pyromancer
1 Figure of Destiny
1 Fire Servant
1 Grim Lavamancer
1 Hellspark Elemental
2 Jackal Pup
1 Jaya Ballard, Task Mage
1 Keldon Champion
2 Keldon Marauders
2 Mogg Fanatic
2 Mogg Flunkies
2 Spark Elemental
1 Vulshok Sorcerer

15 Other Spells
________________
1 Browbeat
1 Chain Lightning
1 Fireball
1 Fireblast
1 Flames of the Blood Hand
1 Hammer of Bogardan
4 Lightning Bolt
1 Pillage
1 Price of Progress
1 Reverberate
1 Sudden Impact
1 Thunderbolt

Most online stores are letting people preorder this for $25-$30 which is a steal. Why aren't you on top of this already? This is the majority of what's needed for a Legacy Burn deck. That's how top notch this is. Preorder now or wait until November 19th for its official release date.

And take a look at that sweet box art.

This is Kylak signing out and hoping you don't burn a hole in your wallet.

  1. It's soooooo tempting to preorder mostly because of what is in the deck (Figure of Destiny = want) and the foil is a great plus :3. Shiny!
The red D20 feels so random though. Does it make noise like thunder and actually create fire and lightening? If it does, then dang, I'm totally set.

  2. Red d20 = life total with the imagery of fire

I agree... it's beyond tempting. Wizards of the Coast is really stepping up their game with these products lately.

  3. Ohyeah, Wizards is doing a great job. High fives for them!

And no, the D20 has to make thunder noises and flash bleaming red light. No imagination.

  5. Hmm. So those cards are actually tournament legal? It does look rather tempting, plus I love D20 die and I love the color red. Right now, the only one I could find was my Betrayers one... everyone always questions why the 20 is an X and tries to compare it to Roman Numerals... and I always have to explain it's a shuriken and it's a pack symbol...

  6. Just to help you out on your decision: These cards are only tournament legal in whatever formats they were already legal in. For example: Chain Lightning is still only legal in the eternal formats (Vintage and Legacy).

On a completely unrelated note: If it's kewl with you, could you email me so that I have your email address? That would be peachy keen.

  7. I can tell you now, I would definitely get one if I get the spare money for it. My girlfriend's birthday is coming up so anything I have for the next month or so will go toward that. A whole deck of foil cards is cool in and of itself. On a further note, I got Elspeth Tirel!

My email is OpeeFomenom@hotmail.com. I tend to use this handle for everything.

  8. Looks like some good burn to me, I see good stuff, fireball, browbeat, good ol' red doing what it does best, be in your face with every card.

  9. @ Opee
Ooohhh snapz! The girlfriend's day of birth! Got an exciting plan ready?

Elspeth Tirel is spifftastic! You might be able to trade her and something else for a Koth if you're lucky.

    @ Sultrador
Yeah! Red doesn't understand the concept of personal space.

  10. Unfortunately, I don't have anything planned. I'm hoping that I'll get to see her on that day at all, though I probably will. Her schedule has to revolve around her mother because they live an hour drive away from where they mingle and can't afford to do their own thing.

XD That's true, I could probably pull a trade off. I might do that if one of the people I play with locally pulls him. I kind of want to hold on to her though, seeing as how she's my first planeswalker. I feel it's something I'd like to hold on to.

  11. Best of luck on being able to spend time together.

That's understandable. If you do decide to keep Elspeth then you should totally build either a Soldier or Token deck to utilize her.
